Care Guide
Before First Use:
To ensure your inserts reach their full absorbency and last for years to come, please follow these steps before using them for the first time:
Bamboo Charcoal Inserts – These only need one wash before first use.
Cotton Bamboo Inserts – Wash at least three times before first use to remove natural oils and boost absorbency.
Hemp Cotton Inserts – Hemp fibers are naturally coated in oils and need four to five washes before reaching peak absorbency.
You don’t need to dry between washes during this prepping stage, simply run multiple wash cycles back-to-back. Please do add detergent to every cycle.
Shells need just one gentle wash before use.
After Each Change:
Place wet diapers in a airy laundry basket or dry pail. If soiled, knock solids into the toilet first. No soaking needed.
Washing Routine:
Pre-wash: Short cold cycle (no detergent) to rinse out urine.
Main wash: Long hot cycle (40–60°C) with full detergent (no softener or bleach!).
Wash every 2–3 days.
Drying:
Inserts: line dry in the sun or tumble dry on low.
Shells: line dry only - keep out of direct harsh sun to preserve elastics and waterproofing.
A Note on Detergents:
Choose one that cleans deeply, but rinses out fully - no perfumes, no residue, nothing left behind but softness. Avoid fabric softeners, fragrance, bleach, and anything with added enzymes or brighteners. These can build up over time and affect how well your diapers absorb. A simple, strong detergent that washes clean is best. Powder often rinses out better than liquid.
Love Them Long:
Rotate your stash to prevent wear, avoid barrier creams directly on the inner lining, and snap shells closed before washing to protect them.
