Begin here
Cloth diapers are designed to adapt. Our one-size pocket diaper adjusts from approximately 5–15kg. Many families begin earlier, from around 3kg, using the lowest rise setting and crossover snaps. A single, considered design can carry your baby from the early weeks through to potty learning, without the need to size up.
Pocket diapers are finished with a soft inner lining, typically fleece, suedecloth, or mesh, designed to draw moisture away from the skin into the insert beneath, leaving a drier surface. They may be used in two ways. Inserts can sit within the pocket, where the stay-dry lining rests against your baby’s skin and holds everything in place, or be laid on top so natural fibres sit directly against the skin, offering a gentle awareness of wetness. Both approaches are considered, and most families move between them with ease.
How Many Will You Need
For full-time use, 20–25 shells with 25–35 inserts offers a reliable baseline. For part-time use, 10–15 shells with 15–20 inserts is often sufficient for daytime or a slower start. Each diaper includes one insert, with additional inserts available to build absorbency as needed. A single insert is typically enough for daytime, while an extra insert is recommended for night or longer stretches.
Cloth is not all or nothing; even one cloth diaper used each day can replace well over 1,000 disposables across your baby’s early years. Begin where you are, and let it build naturally.
Insert Guide
Each fabric serves a distinct function. The balance lies in combining them well.
Cotton Bamboo (70% bamboo | 30% cotton)
Soft, breathable, and stable. A reliable, all-purpose insert that performs consistently across day and night.
Hemp Cotton (55% hemp | 45% cotton)
High capacity with a slim profile. Slower to absorb, but exceptional at holding. Best layered beneath faster-absorbing fibres for longer stretches.
Bamboo Charcoal Fleece
A stay-dry performance fabric (OEKO-TEX® certified) that draws moisture away from the skin. Faster drying and well suited to everyday use.
Grey Microfibre
A fast absorber designed to capture initial flow and reduce flooding. Best used inside the pocket beneath the lining, or layered between inserts. Not intended directly against the skin.
For extended wear, increase absorbency. A considered combination pairs a faster absorber (microfibre or bamboo) with a high-capacity layer (hemp).
Daily Rhythm
Change every 2–3 hours during the day to maintain comfort and skin integrity.
Cloth is not prescriptive. It adjusts to your child and your routine.
Care
Before first use
Bamboo Charcoal: wash once
Cotton Bamboo: wash three times
Hemp Cotton: wash four to five times
Shells: one gentle wash
(Prepping builds absorbency. No drying needed between cycles.)
After use
Store in a dry, airy basket
Remove solids into the toilet
No soaking
Washing
Pre-wash: short cold cycle, no detergent
Main wash: long cycle at 40–60°C with full detergent
Wash every 2–3 days
Drying
